About the programme

This programme is designed to enhance your academic language skills, with a strong focus on critical thinking and academic writing. You’ll also benefit from additional classroom support provided by our experienced and qualified teachers.

At the International College, you’ll have access to the fully equipped library and a wide range of online resources. These will give you a fully immersive on-campus study experience.

As part of the programme, you will study a combination of core modules and specialist modules tailored to the academic stream you choose.

Key facts

Minimum English language level:

Academic IELTS 5.5 overall (with no component below 5.5) or equivalent.

Academic entry requirements:

Completion of 3 x A Levels (or equivalent) or to have completed a recognised foundation programme or first year of an overseas degree with good grades (or equivalent).
 
Each application will be considered individually and assessed on their ability to succeed on the International Year One.

Minimum age requirement:

All students must be 18 years of age at the time of enrolment for their programme.

Progression scholarships:

On successful completion of our programme, you will be eligible for a progression scholarship for the remainder of your study time at the University of Cumbria. You will receive £1,000 per year of study for an undergraduate degree, or £4,000 per year if you progress into Nursing.
